Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi on Monday termed Operation Sindoor “just a trailer” as he trained guns on Pakistan for supporting cross-border terrorism.
Speaking at the Chanakya Defence Dialogue, General Dwivedi said: “When Pakistan fuels terrorism, it is a matter of concern for us. We talk about progress, but if anyone creates hurdles, we will have to act. We will certainly respond to terrorists and their handlers. Even if a threatening letter arrives, we know exactly whom to answer.”
He added: “Pakistan continues to support cross-border terrorism and state-sponsored terrorism. Operation Sindoor in May was just a trailer.”
India launched Operation Sindoor in May 2025 in response to the terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir, which killed 26 people. The operation struck nine terror camps across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), which were linked to groups like Jaish-e-Mohammed and Lashkar-e-Taiba. India used precision munitions—SCALP cruise missiles, guided bombs—and emphasised avoiding collateral damage.
Commenting on the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir after 2019, the army chief said there had been a fall in terrorism and no incidents of stone pelting were reported.
General Dwivedi added that ties with China had improved since October 2024 after political leaders on both sides held talks. “There have been significant changes over the past year—our relations have improved a lot. When political directions are clear, it benefits every level. The prime minister and the Chinese leadership talked and worked out a solution. The more dialogue happens at the border, the better it will be.” He also said: “We have very good ground level cooperation/talks with the Chinese at the border.”
