The Income Tax Department has extended a month on the last date for submission of tax audit report. It was earlier September 30 for the financial year 2024-25, but now it has become 31 October. The decision was taken on the demand of professionals and businessmen.

Question 1: Why was this extension given? Is there any special reason?
answer: Many complaints came from Chartered Accountants and other professional bodies that it is becoming difficult to complete the audit on time. From above, floods in many states and other natural disasters disrupted business and professional activities badly.
CBDT said, “Floods and other disasters affected the normal functioning, which made the compliance difficult.” That is why this relief was given.
Question 2: Which people will be able to take advantage of this extension?
answer: This is especially for those taxpayers, which come under the clause (A) of Explosion 2 of Section 139 (1) of the Income Tax Act.
Meaning, most businessmen, professionals and large turnover taxpayers, which are required to be done tax audit. Those with small taxpayers or salary do not benefit from it.

The Income Tax Department informed in X post- The date of submission of tax audit report has been extended till 31 October.
Question 3: Is there any problem on the e-filing portal?
answer: CBDT has clearly stated that the income tax e-filing portal is completely stable and functional. There is no technical issue. So far, till September 24, 4.02 lakh tax audit reports have been uploaded, in which more than 60,000 submissions were held on the same day.
Also, by September 23, 7.57 crore income tax returns have been filed. So, work is going on on the portal, the reason for the delay is just external troubles.
Question 4: Will there be any official notification for this extension?
answer: Yes, of course. CBDT has said that separate formal notifications will be issued to implement the new deadline.
Right now this decision has been announced through press release, but soon the gazette notification will come. Taxpayers are advised to keep checking the official website.
Question 5: Is this extension only for tax audit report?
answer: This is mainly for tax audit reports, but it includes various audit reports that are for 2024–25 last year. CBDT clarified that it is for reports that fall under Section 139. There is no change on the deadline of ITR filing, it will remain on 31 July 2025, but now there is time till 31 October in the audit cases.
