Amid reports of panic buying and long queues at gas agencies in parts of the country, the government on Monday assured that there is no shortage of LPG, petrol, or diesel, even as supply chains face some pressure due to the West Asia crisis.

Sujata Sharma, Joint Secretary (Marketing & Oil Refinery) in the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, said LPG supply has been impacted to an extent due to the prevailing geopolitical situation, but stressed that adequate arrangements are in place.

“The supply of LPG is affected due to the prevailing geopolitical situation. But a lot of cargo has been lined up, and no dry out has been reported at the LPG distributorships,” she said.

Addressing concerns over panic buying, Sharma noted that while there was a spike in bookings, delivery systems continued to function normally.

“Yesterday, we also observed some panic booking. But the delivery was normal,” she added.

Reassuring consumers, the official said sufficient stocks of all major fuels are currently available across the country.

“There is an adequate supply of petrol and diesel. LPG cylinders are also being given to all domestic consumers. PNG supply is 100% for domestic consumers,” Sharma said.

The clarification comes as visuals of crowds and long waiting times outside LPG agencies and CNG stations surfaced from some cities, raising concerns about possible shortages amid global supply disruptions.

The government has maintained that while logistical challenges may arise due to tensions in West Asia particularly around key energy routes like the Strait of Hormuz—India has adequate buffers and supply plans in place.

Officials have also urged citizens to avoid panic buying, emphasising that supply chains remain stable and are being closely monitored.

With additional LPG shipments already en route to India, authorities said the situation remains under control, even as they continue to keep a close watch on developments in the region.
