Yesterday’s big news was related to SEBI. To protect retail investors from losses, market regulator Securities Exchange Board of India i.e. SEBI issued a new circular on Tuesday (October 1) regarding Futures and Options (F&O). At the same time, the government has collected Rs 1.73 lakh crore from Goods and Services Tax, i.e. GST, in September 2024. There has been an increase of 6.5% on annual basis.

1. SEBI issued a new circular regarding F&O: Contract size increased to ₹ 15 lakh for index derivatives, new rules will be applicable from November 20.

To protect retail investors from losses, market regulator Securities Exchange Board of India i.e. SEBI issued a new circular on Tuesday (October 1) regarding Futures and Options (F&O). According to the circular, the contract size for index derivatives will be increased from Rs 5-10 lakh to Rs 15 lakh.

Whereas weekly index expiry will be limited to one per exchange. SEBI will implement a total of six new rules including contract size and weekly expiry. To regulate the high risk world of F&O, SEBI has made a new framework i.e. new rules.

2. Government collected ₹ 1.73 lakh crore from GST in September: 6.5% increase on annual basis, ₹ 1.62 lakh crore GST was collected in September 2023

The government has raised Rs 1.73 lakh crore from Goods and Services Tax, i.e. GST, in September 2024. There has been an increase of 6.5% on annual basis. The government had collected Rs 1.62 lakh crore GST in September last year. Last month in August, the government had collected Rs 1.75 lakh crore from GST.

This is the second month of single digit growth in collections and the slowest pace of growth in 39 months. Gross GST collection increased by 7.7% in June. The average GST collection pace has decreased to Rs 1.77 lakh crore monthly in the second quarter as compared to Rs 1.86 lakh crore in the first quarter of FY 2025.

4. 6 changes in October, commercial cylinder costlier by Rs 48: Rules of PAN card and Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana changed; flight tickets may become cheaper

From Tuesday (October 1), a 19 kg commercial gas cylinder has become costlier by Rs 48. Now it will be available for Rs 1740 in Delhi. At the same time, there has been a change in the rules related to PPF and Sukanya account. The rules related to making PAN card have also been changed.

The initial public offer i.e. IPO of Garuda Construction and Engineering Limited will open on October 8. Investors will be able to bid for this issue till October 10. The company’s shares will be listed on Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and National Stock Exchange (NSE) on October 15.
