NEET UG 2024 counseling and seat allotment process can start in the third week of July. After the doubts raised about NEET UG counseling last Saturday, the government has informed that the National Medical Commission (NMC) can finalize the NEET UG seat matrix by the third week of July and NEET PG seat matrix by mid-August. After this the counseling process will start.
Earlier NEET UG counseling was to start from 6 July
Actually, it was earlier expected that NEET UG counseling would start from July 6, 2024. Because on June 13, 2024, the National Testing Agency (NTA) lawyer had informed before the vacation bench of Justice Vikram Nath and Justice Sandeep Mehta of the Supreme Court that NEET UG counseling could start from July 6. During the hearing of Jaripati Karthik’s petition, NTA had informed the Supreme Court about re-examination by cancelling the grace marks of 1563 students.
What was said by NTA in the Supreme Court on NEET UG counseling?
Advocate Naresh Kaushik, appearing for NTA, had said as per instructions, ‘The notification for NEET UG re-exam will be issued today itself and the exam will be conducted on 23 June 2024. Its result will be declared before 30 June 2024, so that the counselling starting from 6 July 2024 is not affected.’
Counselling date has not been finalised yet: MCC
However, a notification issued by the Ministry of Health on July 6 said that the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test, Undergraduate (NEET UG) 2024 counselling schedule is yet to be announced. The notice issued read, ‘The counselling schedule for NEET UG and PG is announced by the MCC on its website based on the completion of the examination process and finalisation of the seat matrix by the National Medical Commission (NMC). Counselling for UG seats in the years 2021, 2022 and 2023 started on 19/1/2022, 11/10/2022 and 20/7/2023 respectively.’
When will the NEET UG counselling schedule be released?
The notice further states, ‘For the year 2024, NMC has prepared a schedule for finalizing the seat matrix for UG and PG seats in the last week of June, which indicates that it will finalize the UG seat matrix by the third week of July and the PG seat matrix by mid-August. MCC will notify the counseling schedule in due course.’
Important hearing in NEET UG case in Supreme Court tomorrow
Let us tell you that the Supreme Court bench headed by CJI DY Chandrachud along with Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Mishra will hear the separate petitions filed in the NEET UG 2024 case on July 8. The petitioners have alleged paper leak, some have demanded cancellation of the entire exam and re-conducting of the medical entrance exam, some have demanded an inquiry into the conduct of the National Testing Agency (NTA), petitions have been filed in more cases.
