Double Olympic medallist Neeraj Chopra thanked Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his words of encouragement after the javelin throw ace had breached the 90m mark at the Doha Diamond League.

Chopra finished second at the DDL with his throw of 90.23m, as he went past the 90m mark for the first time in his illustrious career.

“Thank you shri @narendramodi ji for your kind words and encouragement. I hope to continue and give my best for the country always,” Chopra’s post read.

A day earlier, the national Premier had shared a note that read, “A spectacular feat! Congratulations to Neeraj Chopra for breaching the 90 m mark at Doha Diamond League 2025 and achieving his personal best throw. This is the outcome of his relentless dedication, discipline and passion. India is elated and proud. “

Chopra, who had been chasing the coveted 90m mark for a long while, shattered the ceiling with his third attempt in the Qatari capital to rise to the top of the leaderboard, only to be usurped by German Julian Weber, who bettered the Indian’s effort with his final attempt of the evening with a throw that scaled 91.06m, which proved to be the German’s maiden throw over the 90m mark too.

Granada’s Anderson Peters finished the field third on the day with a sub-90m throw, behind Weber and Chopra, who took the top two spots in prestigious event in Doha.
