Four-time Formula One champion Max Verstappen had to endure an eighth-place finish at the Japanese Grand Prix on Sunday as Red Bull continue to look for their first win in the new era of the sport.
Verstappen revealed that it was difficult to find the right balance in the Red Bull during the event in Suzuka and touched up on the direction the team has to work towards.
“Yesterday was a disaster, today in the race I just maximised my race but the feeling in the car is just the same as qualifying,” said Verstappen.
“I was just trying to hang on to it basically in the race,” the Dutchman revealed.
The F1 will be on a five weeks hiatus, due to events in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia being called off because of the war in Iran, leaving the race slated to be held in Miami on May 3 the next active engagement.
Verstappen stated that he’d indulge his fancies away from the track during the time off, while also looking to improve the Red Bull machine.
“I’ll do some more racing, some stuff that makes me smile,” he said.
“And at the same time speak to the team as well, to try and find more pace and some more stable balance because this is not sustainable for us as a team,” he added.
“We need to work hard to understand our problems and bring improvements,” the former champion added.
Team boss Laurent Mekies “It is not just one area we can pinpoint as being the cause of our difficulties”.
“We won’t have solved everything by the next race, but the team will do the heavy lifting and get to the bottom of our difficulties,” he said.
Meecedes youngster Kimi Antonelli continued his impressive run in the ongoing campaign with his second win on the bounce at the Japanese GP, to add to his Chinese GP crown.
