Los Angeles Knight Riders won the Major League Cricket 2026 title.

The New Zealand Cricket Board has decided not to invest in America’s Major League Cricket (MLC). The board had signed an agreement with American company True North Sports (TNS) Ventures to start a new league team before the 2027 season. Now the board has decided to focus on domestic cricket and resources.

Many New Zealand players have played in Major League Cricket. These include Rachin Ravindra, Finn Allen, Devon Conway, Tim Seifert and Lockie Ferguson.

New Zealand had announced partnership in April 2025

New Zealand Cricket had announced a partnership with TNS Ventures in April 2025. Under this agreement, the board was to help start and operate one of two new MLC teams in 2027. For this, high-performance and operational support had to be provided to New Zealand Cricket.

New Zealand Cricket said – now is not the right time

New Zealand Cricket CEO Geoff Allott said he is confident in the purpose and ambition of this partnership. There is a lot of potential for the expansion of cricket in the American market, but after further assessment the Board feels that now is not the right time to move in this direction.

Allott thanked TNS and MLC co-founders Sameer Mehta and Vijay Srinivasan for helping him explore the opportunity. He said that New Zealand Cricket will keep in touch with him in future also.
