Famiang, believed to be the oldest woman in Mizoram, passed away at the age of 117 at her residence in the Lawngtlai district, a community leader said on Wednesday.
She breathed her last in the Pangkhua village on Tuesday.
The records maintained by the village leaders showed that Famiang was born in 1908 and married to Heinawna. She had eight children with him, the leader said.
She has 51 grandchildren, 122 great-grandchildren, and 22 great-great-grandchildren, he added.
She had sound health even in her old age, the leader said, adding that she was honoured by the election department for casting her vote in the previous Assembly Elections held in November 2023.
However, her health started deteriorating in recent months due to age-related problems and her condition worsened in July.
She was laid to rest at Pangkhua’s cemetery.
