The Maharashtra government has fast-tracked Metro-10, planned a doubling of Ghodbunder Road’s width, and is exploring pod taxis — with construction expected to begin within months and a 2029 metro deadline in sight.
What Is Being Done To Fix Thane-Mira Bhayandar Traffic Nightmare?
According to Mid-daythe Maharashtra government is fast-tracking a clutch of infrastructure projects to ease the notorious traffic snarls in the Thane–Mira Bhayandar belt.
• Metro-10, a 9.7-km elevated corridor between Gaimukh (Retibunder) and Ghodbunder, will go to tender next week.
• Construction starts in three to four months, with a 2029 completion target.
• The project is estimated to cost Rs 8,553 crore.
Which Areas Will The Metro Benefit?
Metro-10 will directly serve commuters travelling along Ghodbunder Road — one of the most congested stretches in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.

What Else Is Being Done About Ghodbunder Road?
• Authorities plan to widen the road from 30 metres to 60 metres — effectively doubling its capacity.
• The 5.5–6 km concrete road project will cost around Rs 1,200 crore.
• Officials have been directed to complete the widening before the monsoon.
Are There Any Other Projects In The Pipeline?
• Pod taxi systems are planned for Thane, Mira Bhayandar and Navi Mumbai under a PPP model, with project reports expected in six months.
• Utility pole relocation work worth Rs 75 crore is to be done within three months.
Anything Affecting Auto And Bike Taxi Users?
According to the Mid-day report, the licences of app-based aggregators including Ola, Uber and Rapido have been temporarily suspended due to illegal bike taxi operations. Auto-rickshaw drivers are also now required to have basic Marathi language knowledge, with inspections running until May 1.
