The Institute of Actuaries of India (IAI), Navi Mumbai, recently appointed Preeti Chandrashekhar as its first woman president. Since IAI was established as a statutory entity in 2006, Chandrashekhar will be serving as the eleventh president. She is a certified pension actuary and holds an M.Phil in statistics from the University of Delhi (UoD).
According to an official statement issued in this regard, her extensive background positions enabled IAI to better support its members to meet changing market demands by strengthening its role in cutting-edge domains including data science, climate financing, and economic forecasting.
The appointment has been effective from October 19, 2024. Also, the institute has never had a female president before. “A seasoned professional with over 34 years of experience, Chandrashekhar is recognised for her exceptional contributions to the insurance and pensions sectors, as well as her strong leadership in risk management and consulting,” an official statement mentioned per The Indian Express.
“I am honoured to serve as President of the Institute of Actuaries of India at this pivotal time. As we look ahead, I am committed to strengthening the role of actuaries in addressing emerging challenges in areas such as climate finance, economic resilience, and social security,” Chandrashekhar said while speaking on her appointment quoted in The Indian Express. She further noted that by working together, “we will enable our members to increase their influence in a variety of fields” and help build a more resilient and sustainable future for India.
Meanwhile, actuaries create robust financial plans by evaluating complicated risks, such as market volatility and climate change. IAI would further empower actuaries as crucial consultants on risk and financial stability under her direction, supporting India’s economic resilience and sustainable growth, the official release continued.
The release also states that IAI is the only professional association for actuaries in the nation and that, with the new president in charge, it plans to support the actuarial profession in its efforts to ensure a stable and sustainable financial future for everybody.
“We are delighted to welcome Smt. Preeti Chandrashekhar as the new President of the Institute of Actuaries of India,” stated Tushar Giri, Executive Director of IAI. We do not doubt that under her direction, the Institute will keep growing, promoting the profession, and tackling the intricate problems that modern enterprises face, he added.
