Market Today: The Nifty50 and the Sensex extended their gains after a brief one-day pause, as investors continued to monitor developments in West Asia. Asian Paints, Eicher Motors, Bajaj Auto, and Shriram Finance were among the top gainers on the Nifty50.

Broader markets outperformed the benchmarks, with the Nifty MidCap and Nifty SmallCap indices rising 1.52 per cent and 1.65 per cent, respectively.

On the sectoral front, the Nifty IT index led the gains, while the Nifty Auto, Nifty Bank, and Nifty Financial Services indices lagged their peers.

Both indexes have rallied around 5.7% this week, positioning them to snap a six-week losing streak and post their strongest weekly gain in more than five years.

Global Cues
