Manchester City step closer to Arsenal in PL title race, with crushing 3-0 vs Chelsea

Manchester City produced a commanding performance to defeat Chelsea 3-0 at Stamford Bridge, sending a strong message in the Premier League title race and piling pressure on leaders Arsenal.

Pep Guardiola’s side now sit six points behind Arsenal with a game in hand, and their upcoming head-to-head clash could prove decisive in shaping the title race. With momentum building, City appear to be hitting peak form at exactly the right time in the season.

After a relatively even first half, City took control in emphatic fashion after the break. Nico O’Reilly opened the scoring just six minutes into the second half after a well-worked move led by Rayan Cherki, who was instrumental throughout the contest. Cherki then turned provider again, setting up Marc Guehi to double the advantage in the 57th minute.

Jeremy Doku added the finishing touch with a third goal in the 68th minute, capping a dominant display. The result marked City’s third major win in succession, following victories over Arsenal in the League Cup final and Liverpool in the FA Cup, underlining their growing dominance across competitions.

For Chelsea, the defeat dealt another setback in their push for Champions League qualification. Managed by Liam Rosenior, they remain inconsistent and are now four points behind the top five, having managed just one win in their last seven league outings.

At the other end of the table, Tottenham Hotspur’s relegation concerns deepened following a 1-0 defeat to Sunderland. In Roberto De Zerbi’s first game in charge, Spurs slumped to their 16th loss of the campaign and extended their winless run to 14 matches.

Nordi Mukiele scored the only goal of the game at the Stadium of Light, leaving Tottenham two points adrift of safety with six games remaining. Their situation was further complicated by Nottingham Forest earning a point against Aston Villa.

Meanwhile, Crystal Palace boosted their position with a 2-1 comeback win over Newcastle United.

As the season heads into its final stretch, City’s resurgence has reignited the title battle, while Tottenham face an increasingly uphill task to avoid relegation.
