Seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton shared a beautiful picture with Kimi Antonelli, leaving a heartfelt message for the teenager who became the second-youngest in the history of Formula 1 to win a Grand Prix.
While Hamilton bagged his first podium finish since joining Ferrari in 2025, his achievement was somewhat eclipsed by Antonelli, who claimed his maiden Formula 1 win and became the second-youngest race winner in history.
Hamilton was thrilled for Antonelli, expressing his happiness for the young driver after the race. On Monday, he even took to social media, sharing a selfie from the post-race press conference along with a heartfelt message congratulating him.
“Well done Kimi, first of many ~,” Hamilton posted on Instagram.
In the post-race interview after the Chinese GP, Hamilton said that he was delighted to see Antonelli bag his first victory. They were joined by George Russell, who finished second and also congratulated his much younger teammate on his maiden win.
Hamilton later added in the post-race press conference that it had been ‘amazing’ to watch Antonelli rise through the ranks in recent years and now bag his first Formula 1 win.
Hamilton added that it was ‘awesome’ to see a new wave of talented young drivers break through and make their mark in F1. Antonelli, meanwhile, said that he was ‘super, super happy’ after his maiden victory, expressing gratitude to Mercedes for helping turn one of his biggest dreams into reality.
Mercedes took a second successive one-two in China, with Antonelli leading home Russell.
“It is incredible to be sharing the podium with George and Lewis because George came through the junior academy like me and he is part of the family. Lewis has made history with Mercedes and obviously, it is great for Mercedes,” Antonelli said.
