Rio Ferdinand hails Shubman Gill and Gujarat Titans as they defeat Lucknow Super Giants in IPL 2026, plans India trip to watch games live.

Former Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand, on Sunday, left a heartfelt message for Shubman Gill and his Gujarat Titans side, as they took on the Lucknow Super Giants in an afternoon game of IPL 2026.

Ferdinand took to X on Sunday, saying that he had begun his day by tuning into the IPL 2026 clash between the Titans and the Giants.

Ferdinand added that his schedule would continue with the Chelsea vs Manchester City clash at Stamford Bridge, before a live session for his podcast and then the Masters.

“Super Sunday… Feet up! First up… Let’s goooo @ShubmanGill @gujarat_titans Then let’s see if City puts pressure on Arsenal. Then Rio Presents Live, finishing off with Rory winning the Masters 🤣👍🏽,” Ferdinand tweeted on Sunday evening.

It was not the first time Ferdinand had spoken about Gill, having said in February that he was impressed by the Indian batter.

“I meet a lot of sports stars on my travels, but not many have shown me their curious mind so quickly, like Shubman,” Ferdinand had said.

The former footballer replied to a fan on Sunday as well, revealing that he plans to travel to India this season to watch IPL 2026 games live in the stadium.

Meanwhile, Gill and Jos Buttler built on Prasidh Krishna’s superb four-wicket burst with stylish fifties, steering Gujarat Titans to a comfortable seven-wicket victory over Lucknow Super Giants.

Krishna starred with figures of 4/24 as Gujarat Titans restricted Lucknow Super Giants to 164/8, before Gill (56) and Buttler (60) powered the chase, guiding the visitors to 165/3 with eight deliveries to spare.
