The Israeli Defnce Forces (IDF) said on Thursday that they have “eliminated” the military intelligence commander of the Khan Yunis Brigade, Muhammad Abu Shaleh.

Arab World quoted IDF saying in a statement that Shaleh had “operated in violation of the ceasefire agreement to rehabilitate the organization’s capabilities in the Gaza Strip and planned to carry out terror attacks against Israeli army troops and the State of Israel.”

In a post on X, the IDF said Shalal hjad served during the war as the intelligence officer for the brigade’s senior officials and took part in planning the October 7 massacre in the Khan Yunis Brigade.

“The terrorist was attacked with precision in order to remove an immediate threat to IDF forces. Prior to the attack, steps were taken to minimize harm to civilians, including the use of precise weaponry, aerial observations, and additional intelligence information,” it said.

In previous strikes by Israel, Iran’s national security chief Ali Larijani, top commander of the IRGC’s Basij force, Gholamreza Soleimani, and Iranian intelligence minister Esmail Khatib were killed.

According to Iranian state media, Larijani was killed while he was at his daughter’s house in the Pardis area. As per the media reports, the attack also claimed the lives of his son, a deputy, and several bodyguards.

Amid the ongoing war in West Asia, Iran has strongly criticised the United Nations for maintaining silence over the assassination of its top officials.

In a letter to the Security Council, Tehran’s ambassador to the United Nations, Amir-Saeid Iravani, said that the council’s inaction has made Israel more bold in targeting officials, reported the Mehr news agency.

Iravani said that, if left unchecked, the assassinations could become normalised and spread to other countries as well.

The Iranian diplomat said, since the start of the illegal military aggression against Iran on February 28, the territory of Qatar and some other neighbouring countries has been used by the aggressors to carry out attacks against Iran.

Referring to the act as illegal, the Iranian official said that “providing the territory to the aggressors is an internationally wrongful act.” He said that the same had been previously communicated to the Qatari authorities and had also been published as an official document of the UN Security Council.
