Kerala MLA Rahul Mamkootathil has been taken into police custody after a third rape complaint was registered against him. He was taken into custody on Friday after the police received a fresh complaint by email.
In the earlier two cases filed against him, the MLA had received protection from arrest and was granted anticipatory bail.
Police officials said a special team is questioning him in Pathanamthitta district.
Allegations In Latest Complaint
According to the complaint, the woman has accused the MLA of sexual assault and forcing her to undergo an abortion. She stated that she came into contact with him through social media at a time when she was facing problems in her marriage.
The complainant alleged that the two later entered into a relationship, during which the MLA promised to marry her. She claimed he told her that marriage would be easier if she became pregnant.
However, the complaint says he later forced her to abort the pregnancy and questioned the paternity of the unborn child. She has alleged that the mental stress and pressure caused by this led to a miscarriage.
The woman has also accused the MLA of seeking financial favours from her during their relationship.
Police Action
Police said the investigation is ongoing and that all aspects of the complaint are being examined. Further legal steps will be taken based on the findings of the inquiry.
