The Jawaharlal Nehru University Students’ Union (JNUSU) election results will be announced tomorrow, November 6. The vote counting began at 9 PM on Tuesday and is expected to be completed by tomorrow. According to the Election Commission, this year, the voter turnout was recorded at 67 percent, a slight dip from 70 percent last year.

On Tuesday, students turned out in large numbers to choose their new central panel and school councillors. This year, over 9,000 students were eligible to participate in the voting process. The elections saw a lively atmosphere on campus with slogans, drums, and campaign songs as students queued up to cast their votes.

A total of 20 candidates contested for four main positions: president, vice president, general secretary, and joint secretary. The Left Unity, which includes AISA, SFI, and DSF, fielded Aditi Mishra, Kizhakoot Gopika Babu, Sunil Yadav, and Danish Ali for the central posts. The ABVP’s panel included Vikas Patel, Tanya Kumari, Rajeshwar Kant Dubey, and Anuj.

The contest this year has been close, with the ABVP focusing on “performance and nationalism,” while the Left bloc campaigned on inclusion and student welfare. Around 30 percent of nominations for the central panel and 25 percent for school councillor posts were from women candidates.

According to the election commission, more than 9,000 students were eligible to vote to elect their representatives who address student issues, raise concerns with the university administration, and work for the welfare of the campus community. Students also voted for 42 councillor seats representing various schools of the university.
