The first list of BJP candidates for the assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir will be released today. Names of 60 to 70 candidates have been finalized. The Central Election Committee meeting was held at the BJP headquarters in Delhi on Sunday (25 August). Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP President and Union Minister JP Nadda and Union Minister Jitendra Singh attended the meeting.
Voting will be held in three phases in Jammu and Kashmir on 18, 25 September and 1 October. The results will be declared on 4 October. These are the first assembly elections to be held in Kashmir after the removal of Article 370.
Names of 13 candidates of Democratic Progressive Azad Party were announced
Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad’s party Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP) released the first list of candidates for the assembly elections on August 25. 13 names have been announced in the list.
The party has fielded Qaiser Sultan Ganai against National Conference leader and former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah in Ganderbal. Former minister Abdul Majeed Wani has been fielded from Doda East and former state advocate general Aslam Ghani from Bhaderwah.
This is the first assembly election for the party. Azad resigned from Congress in August 2022. While leaving the party, he wrote a five-page letter to Sonia Gandhi. In this, he strongly criticized the party’s policies and wrote that instead of Bharat Jodo Yatra, Congress Jodo Yatra should be taken out.

NC-Congress’ first list may also come
The first list of candidates for the Jammu and Kashmir elections of the National Conference and Congress may also come out. Under the alliance, in the first phase, the National Conference will contest on 15 seats and Congress on 9 seats. NC and Congress announced the alliance on 22 August. There is still a dispute between the two parties regarding some seats. Due to this, the list is getting delayed.
Leaders of banned Jamaat-e-Islami party will contest elections as independents
In Jammu and Kashmir, leaders of the Jamaat-e-Islami Party will contest elections as independents on 7 seats. The party led by Ghulam Qadir Wani was banned by the central government in 2019 by declaring it an illegal organization under the UAPA Act 1967.
The ban was extended by 5 years in February this year. The party will field its candidates in Kulgam, Devsar, Anantnag-Bijbehara, Shopian-Zainpora, Pulwama, Rajpora and Tral seats.
AAP also released its first list

AAP has appointed Delhi Food Minister Imran Hussain as the election in-charge of Kashmir.
On the other hand, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has also released its first list. The list contains the names of seven candidates. The party has given tickets to Fayaz Ahmed Sofi from Pulwama, Mudassir Hussain from Rajpura, Sheikh Fida Hussain from Devsar, Mohsin Shafqat Mir from Doru, Mehraj Din Malik from Doda, Yasir Shafi Matto from Doda West and Mudassir Azmat Mir from Banihal.
Voting will be held in three phases in Jammu and Kashmir
Elections for the 90 assembly seats of Jammu and Kashmir will be held in three phases on 18 September, 25 September and 1 October. So far, 14 candidates have filed nominations for the 24 seats of the first phase. The last date for nomination for the first phase is 27 August. The Election Commission has announced the dates for the Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections on 16 August. The result will come on 4 October.

The last assembly elections were held in 2014
The last assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir were held in 2014. Then BJP and PDP formed a coalition government. The government fell after the coalition broke in 2018. After this, Governor’s rule (according to the Jammu and Kashmir Constitution at that time) remained in the state for 6 months. After this, President’s rule came into force.
The 2019 Lok Sabha elections were held during the President’s rule, in which the BJP returned to power at the Centre with a huge majority. After this, on 5 August 2019, the BJP government abolished Article 370 and divided the state into two union territories (Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh). In this way, assembly elections are being held in Jammu and Kashmir after 10 years.
