Trump earlier announced a two-week ceasefire with Iran, on the condition that Tehran agrees to a “complete, immediate, and safe opening” of the Strait of Hormuz.

US Vice President JD Vance on Wednesday said the ceasefire with Iran remains “fragile”, urging Tehran to negotiate in “good faith” to reach a long-term deal. He also warned that US President Donald Trump was “not one to mess around”.
Speaking during a visit to Hungary, Vance said a deal to ease tensions in the Middle East is possible if Iran engages constructively with Washington.
“If the Iranians are willing in good faith to work with us, I think we can make an agreement,” Vance said in Budapest.
He added that if Tehran refuses to negotiate“they’re going to find out that the President of the United States is not one to mess around. He’s impatient. He’s impatient to make progress.”

Vance also said Trump had directed his team to pursue talks seriously. “The President of the United States has told me, and he’s told the entire negotiating team … go and work in good faith to come to an agreement,” he said. “That is what he has told us to do.”

“Subject to the Islamic Republic of Iran agreeing to the COMPLETE, IMMEDIATE, and SAFE OPENING of the Strait of Hormuz, I agree to suspend the bombing and attack of Iran for a period of two weeks,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

He also said Iran had shared a 10-point proposal, calling it a “workable basis on which to negotiate”.
The ceasefire appeared to be holding on Wednesday after both sides agreed to the temporary truce. However, Iranian officials signalled that a lasting agreement would depend on further negotiations.
Tehran has agreed to briefly reopen the Strait of Hormuzwhich led to a fall in oil prices. Still, key differences remain over sanctions, nuclear activity, and control of the waterway.
Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Israel supports the ceasefire, but noted that it does not apply to ongoing fighting in Lebanon, where Israel’s operation has killed more than 1,500 people, according to local authorities.
