Jannik Sinner breaks Novak Djokovic record with 26 straight sets at ATP Masters 1000 and continues dominant run in Miami with victory over Corentin Moutet.

Four-time Grand Slam champion Jannik Sinner on Monday went past Novak Djokovic to become the player with the most consecutive set wins at the Masters 1000 level, during his straight-sets win against France’s Corentin Moutet.

With a routine third-round victory at Hard Rock Stadium, Sinner extended his Masters 1000 dominance to 26 successive sets, going past Djokovic’s previous record of 24.

Sinner had drawn level with the mark after beating Bosnia and Herzegovina’s Damir Džumhur in the second round before breaking it in the next match.

“I am very happy. This sport is unpredictable, so we try to keep attention as much as we can and we will see what is coming in the next round,” Sinner said after the match.

Sinner would take on the USA’s Alex Michelsen in the Round of 16 on Wednesday.

Sinner’s streak dates back to last November’s Rolex Paris Masters, where he lifted the title without dropping a set. He carried that dominance into March, repeating the feat at the BNP Paribas Open and with two victories in Miami, has now stretched his run to 13 successive Masters 1000 wins.

Against Moutet, there were almost no signs that Sinner’s streak was under threat. The latter dictated play with a commanding serve, winning 87% (33/38) of his first-serve points, as per Infosys ATP Stats.

Sinner was sharp off both wings, blasting 23 winners to Moutet’s 11 and never permitting the latter to settle into any rhythm.

With a 1-hour, 11-minute win, Sinner moved to 2-0 in his head-to-head against Moutet and stretched his winning run against left-handers to 21 matches.

“There is Ben [Shelton]Tien, Shapovalov, Moutet. I don’t want to forget other players, but we try to prepare in the best way possible, trying to be tactical and as perfect as possible,” Sinner said.
