Jaishankar Speaks To Iranian Counterpart Araghchi, Conveys Nowruz Greetings, Discusses Conflict

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Saturday talked to Iran’s counterpart Seyed Abbas Araghchi and conveyed greetings for Nowruz and Eid.

Notably, this is the fourth time the leaders have talked since the ongoing conflict began. During the discussion, they talked about recent developments and their wider regional impact.

“Spoke this evening to FM @araghchi of Iran. Conveyed greetings for Navroz and Eid. Our conversation was on the latest developments regarding the conflict. And its implications for the larger region,” he wrote on X.

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a discussion with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, extending greetings on the occasions of Eid and Nowruz and expressing hope for peace, stability, and prosperity across West Asia.

During the conversation, PM Modi strongly condemned attacks on critical infrastructure in the region, warning that such actions threaten regional stability and disrupt global supply chains.

“Spoke with President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian and conveyed Eid and Nowruz greetings. We expressed hope that this festive season brings peace, stability and prosperity to West Asia. “Reiterated the importance of safeguarding freedom of navigation and ensuring that shipping lanes remain open and secure. Appreciated Iran’s continued support for the safety and security of Indian nationals in Iran,” he added.

India has consistently pushed for dialogue and diplomacy with Iran since the start of the ongoing conflict, urging all sides to avoid escalation and return to negotiations. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has repeatedly stressed that “dialogue and diplomacy” remain the only viable path to reduce tensions and address underlying issues.

New Delhi has maintained active engagement with Tehran, holding multiple high-level conversations and focusing on stabilising the region. India has also chosen direct talks with Iran over joining military coalitions, with officials noting that such diplomatic efforts have already yielded results, particularly in easing maritime tensions in the Strait of Hormuz.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has echoed this stance, emphasising the need for peace, stability and uninterrupted global supply chains, while calling for the protection of key shipping routes.

India’s approach reflects a broader strategy of balancing its strategic interests with a strong emphasis on peaceful resolution, even as the conflict continues to impact regional security and global energy markets.
