If a gas pipeline has come to your area, then the LPG cylinder coming to your house may stop in the next 3 months. In view of the ongoing war and gas shortage in the Middle East, the Central Government has implemented ‘Natural Gas and Petroleum Products Distribution Order 2026’. Under this, it will now be mandatory to take piped gas (PNG) connection. If someone does not take the connection even after receiving the information, his LPG supply will be stopped after 90 days. Besides, the societies will also have to give approval for the pipeline within 3 days. Understand the 4 rules of the new Act 1. End to the arbitrariness of societies and RWAs Many times the pipeline work was stopped due to opposition from housing societies or RWAs (Resident Welfare Association). This will not happen now. 2. Small areas will get approval in 10 days. Now government departments are not allowed to hang files for laying pipelines. 3. The hassle of land and compensation is over. If the pipeline is passing through someone’s private land, then cases regarding compensation will not go on for years. The government has made a fixed formula based on the circle rate. If the land owner does not agree, the District Collector will intervene and take the work forward so that the supply is not delayed. 4. Is it for your safety and savings? The government has released it under the ‘Essential Commodities Act’, so that you do not face shortage of cooking gas even in war-like situations. Those with PNG connections will not get LPG cylinders. The government had issued new rules regarding PNG connections on March 14 itself. Under this, if you have a Piped Natural Gas (PNG) connection in your house, then now you will have to surrender your LPG cylinder. According to the new order, PNG users will neither get a new LPG connection nor will the old cylinder be refilled. The government has already issued new rules 4 times regarding the supply of LPG cylinders. Now the government has taken these steps regarding the LPG crisis. 3 big questions for the users. Question: Will I have to return the cylinder now? Answer: No, not yet. A 3-month countdown will start once the pipeline becomes active in your area and you receive the notice. Question: Is PNG cheaper than cylinder? Answer: Generally, PNG bill comes according to usage and it is considered cheaper and safer than LPG. Question: What if a pipeline to my house is not technically feasible? Answer: In such a situation your LPG supply will not be stopped. This rule is only for those houses where pipeline access is possible. ————— Also read this news… Ethanol will become an alternative to cooking gas: Government is making special ethanol-stoves; It has been decided to overcome the shortage of LPG.
