Israel on Wednesday backed US President Donald Trump’s decision to suspend strikes on Iran for two weeks as part of a ceasefire arrangement, contingent on Tehran reopening the Strait of Hormuz and halting attacks in the region.
“Israel supports President Trump’s decision to suspend strikes against Iran for two weeks, subject to Iran immediately opening the straits and stopping all attacks on the US, Israel, and countries in the region,” the office of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said in a statement.

The message comes as Washington seeks to push forward negotiations aimed at addressing broader security concerns shared by the US, Israel, and their regional allies.
US officials have conveyed to Israel that upcoming talks will focus on ensuring Iran no longer poses a nuclear, missile, or regional security threat, a goal aligned across the US and its allies, according to the statement.
“Israel also supports the US effort to ensure that Iran no longer poses a nuclear, missile, and terror threat to America, Israel, Iran’s Arab neighbours, and the world,” the statement added.
However, officials clarified that the current two-week ceasefire arrangement applies only to Iran and does not extend to Lebanon, leaving the possibility of continued tensions on that front.
