South African batter Rilee Rossouw has drawn attention after making a comparison between the Indian Premier League and the Pakistan Super League. The left-hander is currently representing Quetta Gladiators in the 11th edition of the PSL.
Rilee Rossouw compared the Indian Premier League and the Pakistan Super League, saying both have their pros and cons. The 36-year-old noted the IPL is longer and more entertainment-driven due to Bollywood involvement, while the PSL is shorter, more intense, and offers fiercer on-field competition.
“Both leagues have their pros and cons. IPL is a very long tournament, and PSL is a much more compact tournament where the competition is a lot more fierce. IPL obviously has the whole Bollywood backing it, so it’s a lot more of a movie than actual cricket,” Rossouw said on the sidelines of the PSL.
Earlier, Adam Zampa, who’s playing for the Karachi Kings, also spoke about why he chose the PSL ahead of the IPL. Zampa said he is not satisfied with his IPL remuneration, noting that his skills and impact as a specialist spinner are not reflected fairly in a two-month tournament like the IPL.
HOW DID ROSSOUW PLAY IN THE IPL?
Rossouw has had a stop-start journey in the Indian Premier League since first entering the auction in 2011. Although he was initially picked by Royal Challengers Bengaluru, he did not feature in that season and had to wait until 2014 to make his IPL debut.
Over the years, he has represented teams such as Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings, but never secured a long-term spot due to intense overseas competition and inconsistent form. In 22 IPL matches, he has scored 473 runs at an average of 23.65 and a strike rate of around 153, including two fifties, with a best of 82 not out.
In 2024, he was bought by Punjab Kings for Rs 8 crore but was released ahead of the 2025 season. In the 2025 mega auction, he registered at a base price of Rs 2 crore but went unsold.
Rossouw was picked by Quetta Gladiators for PKR 5.55 crore, which is approximately INR 1.66 crore, in PSL 2026. In four matches, he has scored 79 runs at an average of 19.75 and a strike rate of 111.26, with a highest score of 53 against Rawalpindi on April 10.
