Team India’s legendary bowler Ravichandran Ashwin has criticized Rishabh Pant for withdrawing the appeal for the run-out against RCB captain Jitesh Sharma in the IPL. Ashwin described it as an insult to the bowler and said that this can make the bowler feel small and humiliated.
Actually, this incident occurred during the 17th over in the match of RCB vs Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). LSG bowler Digvesh Rathi noticed that Jitesh Sharma is out of the crease at non-strayer end, then he appealed by dropping bails. The replays showed that the batter was out of the crease, but the bowler had completed his delivery stride, so the third umpire called not out. But the biggest controversy occurred when Rishabh Pant withdrew the appeal and after that Jitesh came and embraced Pant.
Ashwin’s anger erupted
In his YouTube show, Ashwin said, ‘If Jitesh Sharma was out of the crease before the bowler was in the delivery straight, he could have been called out. The bowler’s appeal was also valid. Digvesh Rathi had a front foot land and Jitesh Sharma was in the crease, so he was not technically out. But what Pant did was wrong. ‘Ashwin said that the captain’s job is to support the bowler. But his captain rejected his appeal in front of crores of people. this is outrageous. The job of a captain is to support the player, not to reduce him in front of everyone.
Ashwin further said that such incidents break the bowlers inside. Ashwin said that Digvesh Rathi is not my relative, not even my friend. I do not even know him. But I am speaking – if you reject his appeal in this way, then he will never do this again.
