The ongoing war between Iran and America-Israel is now affecting your air travel as well. Traveling by flight of the country’s largest airline company Indigo is going to become expensive from March 14. The airline has decided to impose fuel charges ranging from ₹425 to ₹2300 on domestic and international flight tickets. After this, passengers making new booking will have to pay extra fuel charge along with the ticket. The airline says that due to the ongoing war between America, Israel and Iran, there has been a sharp increase in the prices of jet fuel, hence this step has been taken. According to the company, there will be a fuel charge of ₹ 425 on flights to India and the Indian subcontinent, while an additional ₹ 900 will have to be paid for flights to the Middle East. Whereas, fuel charge of ₹ 1800 will be charged on flights to South-East Asia, China, Africa and West Asia and ₹ 2300 on flights to Europe. The price of ATF increased due to tension in the Middle East. The airline said that Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) accounts for about 40% of the total operating expenses of any airline. Fuel prices have increased due to increased geopolitical tensions in the Middle East. The company says that adding the entire impact to the fare would have made the tickets very expensive, hence a limited fuel charge has been imposed to reduce the burden on passengers. Earlier, Air India and Air India Express have also announced to implement fuel surcharge on tickets. The country’s largest airline company Indigo on Friday announced the imposition of ‘fuel surcharge’ on all domestic and international flights. This new rule will come into effect from 12 midnight on March 14. This means that if you book tickets from tomorrow, you will have to spend more money. The company says that adding the entire impact to the fare would have made the tickets very expensive, hence a limited fuel charge has been imposed to reduce the burden on passengers. Earlier, Air India and Air India Express have also announced to implement fuel surcharge on tickets. Indigo issued a press release saying that due to the ongoing war and geopolitical tension in the Middle East, there has been a huge increase in the prices of aviation fuel (ATF). According to the International Air Transport Association (IATA)’s Jet Fuel Monitor, fuel prices in the region have increased by more than 85%. For this reason the company had to take this step.
