The market share of India’s largest airline IndiGo increased by 0.4% compared to July to reach 60.4% in August. At the same time, the market share of SpiceJet and AIX Connect has declined. On the other hand, Akasa Air was India’s most on-time airline, with 71.2% of its flights taking off on time in August.
In August, 1.31 crore people traveled by domestic airlines in India. This is 5.7% more than in August last year. In August 2023, 1.24 crore people traveled by domestic airlines. In July 2024, this data was 1.29 crore. That is, there has been an increase in it on annual and monthly basis.
SpiceJet and AIX Connect’s market share decreased IndiGo’s market share increased from 62.0% in July to 62.4% in August. The airline carried 81.90 lakh passengers during this period. AIX Connect’s market share declined from 4.5% to 4.4% and SpiceJet’s from 3.1% to 2.3%.

Akasa Air ranks first in terms of on-time performance Akasa Air had an on-time performance of 71.2% at four metro airports – New Delhi, Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Mumbai. Vistara and Air India Express (AIX Connect) were ranked second and third, followed by IndiGo.

45.1% flights were cancelled due to technical reasons
According to data from the Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), 1,79,744 passengers were affected by flight delays last month and airlines spent about Rs 2.44 crore on passenger service. In August, 38,599 passengers were affected by flight cancellations, due to which airlines had to pay about Rs 1.14 crore as compensation.
The biggest reason for flight cancellations was technical, due to which 45.1% flights were cancelled. 22.2% flights were cancelled due to bad weather and 12.1% due to operational reasons. In August, 19.9% flights were cancelled due to miscellaneous reasons.
