A full emergency was declared at New Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport on Saturday after an incoming IndiGo flight from Visakhapatnam reported a suspected engine failure.
According to officials, IndiGo flight 6E 579 (Visakhapatnam–Delhi) with 161 people on board, reportedly suffered an engine failure, prompting the pilots to request priority landing.
Runway 28 was cleared so that the aircraft could land under full emergency protocol.

The Delhi Fire Services said it received information about the situation at around 10:53 am, following which fire tenders were rushed to the airport.
“A flight made an emergency landing at Delhi Airport. According to the fire department, all are safe and no damage has been reported. The fire department received information about the emergency landing at 10:53 AM and immediately dispatched fire tenders. The flight landed safely,” the Delhi Fire Services (DFS) said in a statement.
The aircraft landed safely, and all passengers and crew members were reported to be safe. Authorities confirmed that no damage has been reported. Passengers were assisted by airline staff and the Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) terminal operations team after disembarkation.
Officials said the emergency response was activated as per standard safety protocol in view of a suspected engine issue.
IndiGo Issues Statement
In a statement, IndiGo said a technical snag was detected shortly before landing and the pilots followed standard operating procedures by requesting priority landing.
“The aircraft arrived safely at Indira Gandhi International Airport, Delhi. All relevant authorities were promptly informed and the aircraft is undergoing necessary checks and maintenance,” the airline spokesperson said, adding that passenger and crew safety remains its top priority.
