The Canadian Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, Marc Miller has revised the working hours for international students. They can now work up to 24 hours per week outside campus. Earlier, students were allowed to work up to 20 hours a week. This way, students can earn more as well as gain work experience. The minister further stated students are required to apply for and receive approval for a new study permit before changing institutions.
Who Are Eligible?
— Students who are full-time student at a designated learning institution (DLI).
— Students enrolled in either a post-secondary academic, vocational, or professional training programme or a secondary-level vocational training programme (Quebec only).
— The study programme must be at least six months
— Must have a valid Social Insurance Number (SIN).
Those enrolled only in an English or French as a Second Language (ESL/FSL) programme are not eligible to apply. Those taking general interest courses too are ineligible.

Canada has done away with the popular Student Direct Stream (SDS) starting November 8, thereby, ending a fast-track study permit process that helped thousands of international students quickly secure visas. Launched in 2018, the Student Direct Stream (SDS) provided faster processing for eligible post-secondary students.
The SDS was opened to legal residents of Antigua and Barbuda, Brazil, China, Colombia, Costa Rica, India, Morocco, Pakistan, Peru, Philippines, Senegal, St Vincent and the Grenadines, Trinidad and Tobago, and Vietnam. Prospective university students from Nigeria had a similar process with the Nigeria Student Express (NSE).
“Prospective students are invited to apply through the regular study permit stream, which accepts Guaranteed Investment Certificates as proof of financial support. Canada will continue to welcome international students from all around the world,” it explained.
