The Nigerian Education Minister stated that the proposed IIT Nigeria campus aligns with the govt’s objective of delivering world-class education in Nigeria.

The Federal Government of Nigeria recently held discussions with the Indian High Commissioner to Nigeria, His Excellency Abhishek Singh, about collaborating on the establishment of a Nigerian campus of the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology (IIT). This announcement was made by the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa (CON), during the Indian High Commissioner’s courtesy visit to the Ministry’s headquarters in Abuja.
“Nigeria and India are deepening educational cooperation as plans advance for the establishment of the first Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) campus in Nigeria,” the Federal Ministry of Education posted on ‘X’ (formerly Twitter).

The Nigerian Education Minister announced that the proposed IIT Nigeria campus aligns with the Federal Government’s goal of providing world-class education and positioning Nigeria as a regional hub for technological excellence.
The Nigerian government has designated the Federal Government Academy (FGA) in Suleja, also known as the Nigerian Academy for the Gifted, as the primary site for this project.
He explained that the proposed IIT Nigeria project would draw inspiration from the successful IIT Madras Zanzibar campus, where India contributes academic expertise, curriculum, and faculty, while the host nation provides infrastructure and institutional support. According to him, the IIT Nigeria model will serve as a flagship collaboration and a catalyst for educational advancement in Africa.
