The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) has taken a major decision regarding the CA Final exam. From May 2026, the CA Final exam will be held twice a year instead of three times. Under the new system, the CA Final exam will now be conducted in May and November. Earlier, it was held three times a year in January, May, and September.

According to ICAI, reducing the number of attempts will help students prepare better and maintain a healthier balance between studies, articleship, and other responsibilities. ICAI stated it has taken this decision after consulting with stakeholders.

ICAI states that this decision is based on feedback from students. Conducting exams three times a year was creating excessive pressure. With two exam cycles, students will be able to focus better on preparation and are expected to perform more effectively. This change marks a new beginning for CA students. ICAI CA Inter Schedule Revised

ICAI has also revised the schedule for the CA Intermediate examination. The May 2026 exam will now start on May 5 instead of May 3. Group 1 exams will be held on May 5, 7, and 9, while Group 2 exams will be conducted on May 11, 13, and 15. There is no change in the schedule of the Foundation and Final examinations.
