The Himachal Pradesh education department has declared holidays for schools in Una district from June 1 to 30 due to the intense summer heat, officials announced on Tuesday. The department stated that the summer vacation will be divided into two terms: the entire month of June and a period in August, reported PTI.

According to the revised schedule, all schools in Una will remain closed from June 1 to 30 and will reopen on July 1.

Classes will continue until August 2, after which schools will take a short break from August 3 to 12.

Somlal Dhiman, Deputy Director of Primary Education, mentioned that the state government had originally planned summer vacations from June 1 to 8 and then again from July 12 to August 12 for summer-closing schools.

“The temperature in Una often reaches 44-45 degrees Celsius in June. Teachers’ unions have frequently requested the government to either reschedule the holidays or adjust school timings due to the extreme heat. Therefore, this year, the education department has taken a proactive step to provide complete relief to the students during the summer season,” Dhiman said.

He further mentioned that Una district has a total of 744 government schools, including 474 primary schools, 84 middle schools, 45 high schools, and 141 senior secondary schools, with thousands of students attending these schools every day.

Meanwhile, summer vacations have officially started in most parts of India, with schools closing between April and June, depending on the region. States like Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Delhi, Rajasthan, and Tamil Nadu have already announced their respective break periods. The duration of these vacations varies based on local weather conditions, with heatwaves and climate advisories playing a significant role.

As the break continues, parents and students are actively looking for official reopening dates to plan ahead. While many private schools operate on individual schedules, government advisories and extreme weather often cause changes. Most states have released the official School Holiday Calendar 2025, which includes summer vacation dates and tentative reopening plans.
