A disturbing case has come to light in Vijayawada, where a young woman has filed a police complaint alleging that her husband and in-laws deceived her by hiding his impotence before their marriage. The woman also accused them of demanding a large dowry and threatening her when she questioned them.

According to reports, the complainant is a government employee from Nandyal working as a Panchayat Secretary. On December 21, she married a man from Kadapa district in a ceremony held in Nandyal, following Muslim traditions. The groom reportedly works as a planning secretary in Vijayawada. Since both families were pleased with the alliance and both individuals held government jobs, the bride’s parents agreed to give a dowry beyond their financial capacity.

The bride’s family allegedly gave Rs 10 lakh as dowry before the wedding. They also paid around s 1 lakh for clothing in the ceremony, and the bride was given about five tolas of gold jewellery.

However, according to the complaint, tensions began almost immediately after the wedding. On the day of the reception itself, the groom allegedly picked a quarrel with the bride’s family over a minor issue, raising suspicions about his behaviour.

The woman later told police that during the three months of their marriage, she began to notice unusual behaviour from her husband. She claimed that he often stayed away from home at night and avoided physical intimacy.

When she eventually confronted him about the issue, the woman alleged that he responded casually, saying that he had married her only to take care of his parents. She further claimed that he later left her at his brother’s house and moved away.

After further questioning and discussions with family members, the woman alleged that she came to know that her husband was medically unfit for marriage and that his parents were aware of this before the wedding.

According to the complaint, she believes the marriage was arranged primarily to obtain dowry and that the truth about her husband’s condition was deliberately concealed.

The woman said elders from both families later tried to resolve the issue through a community meeting. However, she alleged that the accused showed no remorse during the discussions.

Instead, she claimed that her husband and his relatives threatened her and forced her to leave the house, warning her not to reveal the matter to anyone.

Feeling distressed and unsafe, the woman eventually approached the Governorpet police station in Vijayawada and filed a complaint.

Based on the complaint, police have registered a case against the husband and two of his relatives. The case includes charges related to cheating, dowry harassment, and criminal intimidation.

Police officials said an investigation is currently underway.

The incident has sparked discussion locally, particularly because the victim is a government employee. Women’s rights groups have also called for strict action against those responsible, stating that hiding crucial information before marriage and demanding dowry are serious offences.
