The murder case of 24-year-old Haryanvi model Sheetal has been solved with the arrest of the accused, Sunil, by the CIA-1 police team in Panipat. Sunil, a resident of Israna, was apprehended on Monday evening for allegedly stabbing Sheetal to death.
The model’s family had lodged a missing person’s report at the Matlauda police station on June 15 after Sheetal went missing. Her body was recovered from a canal in Sonipat with injury marks on her throat on Monday morning.
Following this, the police suspect that she was murdered. The woman, identified as Sheetal alias Simmi, lived with her sister in Panipat and worked as a model making music videos.
According to Sub-Inspector Sandeep, in-charge of CIA-1, Sheetal’s elder sister on June 15 lodged a complaint at Matlauda police station about her missing sister. In the complaint, she stated that her sister, Sheetal, who lived with her, worked as a model in Haryanvi albums and had gone for a shoot on May 14 to Ahar village, but never returned. The family searched for her but was unable to trace her.
Based on her complaint, a case was registered under Section 127(6) of the BNS, and an investigation was initiated.
During the search, the Sonipat police found a woman’s body in a canal near Kharkhoda, which was identified as Sheetal’s. After a post-mortem at PGI Khanpur, her body was returned to her family. Based on the family’s statements, a murder case was registered against Sunil, who was arrested near Park Hospital on Monday evening.
During initial interrogation, Sunil confessed to stabbing Sheetal and attempting to stage the murder as a car accident by dumping the vehicle in the canal.
The police plan to present Sunil in court on Tuesday to seek his remand for further questioning and to recover the weapon used in the crime.
