A person from Haryana’s Kurukshetra was found living at Brazil’s Sao Paulo Airport for a week without the notice of the security officials.

The matter came to light when this person, while inside the airport, obtained a fake passport and other travel documents and reached the immigration counter to go to Colombia. After being exposed, the person was deported to Delhi.

According to a senior officer associated with IGI Airport Security, Gaurav, who lives in Achanaicha village of Kurukshetra, had left for Addis Ababa from Delhi Airport on a Visa on Arrival facility. From Addis Ababa, he had to reach Bolivia via Sao Paulo (Brazil). While Gaurav succeeded in reaching the Sao Paulo airport, he was not allowed to travel to Bolivia from there because he did not have a return air ticket. The security agency at Sao Paulo airport had instructed Gaurav to go back to India. However, on the advice of an agent, he hid in the transit area of the Sao Paulo airport.

According to the senior officer, during his stay at the airport Gaurav was changing his location at short intervals and ate at the food court in the transit area. When Gaurav got to know that he would not be able to travel to Bolivia on his passport, he asked his agent for a passport issued in another name.

Within a week, an agent named Ali arranged another passport and delivered it to Gaurav inside the airport. This was a Malaysian passport, in which Gaurav got a fake name, Sears Vargas Jesus Santos Ivan.

Under his fake identity, Gaurav had to leave for Colombia instead of Bolivia. As soon as he reached the immigration counter to go to Colombia, the fact that he was staying illegally at the Sao Paolo airport came to light. The immigration officers took him into custody and deported him to Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport by flight number ET-688.

After reaching IGI Airport, the airline’s security officials handed Gaurav over to the Bureau of Immigration, who in turn, handed him over to the IGI Airport Police after a preliminary interrogation. The airport police have registered an FIR against the accused under the relevant sections of the law and have started an investigation.
