Where Will GATE Scores Be Used?

GATE scores are crucial for admission to advanced education programmes like M.Tech, M.E., and Ph.D. at top institutes such as IITs and NITs, which also offer a monthly stipend during studies. Additionally, GATE scores are significant for government job opportunities. Many PSUs use GATE scores for recruiting engineers, where candidates with high scores may secure jobs through direct interviews or group discussions, bypassing separate written exams.

Several major Indian government companies, including ONGC, NTPC, BHEL, GAIL, IOCL, HPCL, BPCL, SAIL, Power Grid, Coal India, and DRDO, recruit based on GATE scores for positions like Engineer Trainee, Graduate Engineer Trainee (GET), and Management Trainee. For instance, NTPC and Power Grid Corporation annually hire many engineers through GATE scores. Similarly, oil and gas sector companies like ONGC, IOCL, and GAIL also shortlist candidates via GATE, with the selection process typically involving an interview or group discussion.

In addition to PSUs, government institutions and research organizations such as DRDO, ISRO, and BARC also prioritize GATE scores for specific positions.
