Sergio Ramos’ Sevilla story may not be over just yet — and this time, it might be unfolding in the boardroom.
The former Real Madrid and Spain legend is reportedly involved in takeover talks at his boyhood club, as Sevilla explores a change in ownership that has taken an unexpected twist.
After emerging from Sevilla’s academy before becoming a modern great at Real Madrid, Ramos endured a long and often frosty relationship with the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán faithful.
But bridges were partially rebuilt during his emotional return in 2023/24, a one-season spell that ended 18 months ago.
Now, according to reports from Football Espanathe 39-year-old defender has initiated preliminary contacts to assess Sevilla’s financial and ownership situation — with a view to becoming an investor.
Ramos, who left Mexican side Monterrey in December, remains keen to stay involved in football despite approaching 40. While he has been linked with surprise moves back to Europe, including a speculative Manchester United switch, this development suggests a very different next chapter.
AS Diary reported that potential American buyers have lowered their offer following due diligence, opening the door for Ramos to lead a separate group of investors. His consortium has reportedly submitted the highest bid so far, although Ramos would likely take up a minority stake rather than full control.
Sevilla’s recent struggles — on and off the pitch — have made the club a challenging proposition. Once Europa League royalty, the Andalusians narrowly avoided relegation last season and continue to battle financial instability.
Still, the idea of Ramos returning not as a player, but as part of Sevilla’s ownership, would mark a remarkable full-circle moment.
From academy graduate to club legend and now potentially shareholder.
