Former Raymond Group chairman Vijaypat Singhania passed away at the age of 87. His son Gautam Singhania gave this information on social media. His last rites will be held today at 3 pm at Chandanwadi cremation ground in Mumbai. Vijaypat Singhania has been the former managing director of the country’s leading textile company Raymond Group. Vijaypat was in the headlines since 2017 due to a dispute related to family and property with his son Gautam Singhania. Gautam Singhania’s He was one of the rare corporate leaders who took risky actions outside the boardroom. He received many accolades in both business and adventure fields. Received ‘Padma Bhushan’, India’s third highest civilian honour, as well as ‘Tenzing Norgay National Adventure Award’. In November 2005, when Vijaypat was 67 years old, he created a world record by reaching a height of about 69000 feet in a hot air balloon. Earlier in 1988, he had created a ‘speed-over-time endurance record’ by flying solo in a microlight aircraft from London to New Delhi in 23 days. In 1994, the Indian Air Force made him ‘Honorary Air Commodore’ due to his flying experience of more than 5000 hours, while in 2006 he was appointed ‘Sheriff’ of Mumbai.
