FMGE June 2025 pass rate falls to 18.61%, over 81% of candidates fail to qualify.
The Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE) has once again recorded a low pass rate, underscoring the challenges faced by Indian medical graduates from foreign universities in securing eligibility to practise in India. The pass percentage for the June 2025 session stood at 18.61%, marking a sharp fall of nearly 11 percentage points compared to the same period last year.
The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) conducted the screening test on 26 July for MBBS graduates who completed their degrees abroad. Qualifying the FMGE is mandatory for such candidates to register with the Medical Council and practise medicine in India.
According to the results, a total of 37,207 candidates registered for the exam, with 36,034 appearing. Only 6,707 cleared the test, while 29,327 failed, pushing the failure rate to 81.39% — significantly higher than in previous years. Another 1,168 candidates (around 3% of those registered) were marked absent, and results of five candidates were withheld.
The FMGE is held twice a year, and those who do not qualify are eligible to reappear in subsequent sessions. To pass, candidates must score at least 150 marks out of a total of 300.
Pass Rate Trends
The June 2025 results reflect a notable dip from the December 2024 session, which saw the pass percentage improve to 29.62% after years of fluctuation. Historically, the June sessions tend to post lower pass rates compared to December. The pass rate had previously dropped to a low of 10.20% in June 2023 before rebounding in later sessions.
