Fire Breaks Out At AIIMS Delhi; No Casualties Reported


A fire broke outĀ at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi on Thursday.

Smoke was detected around 5:15 pm on the service floor of the Mother and Child Block, following which fire response teams were immediately alerted. The in-house AIIMS fire unit and the Delhi Fire Service (DFS) promptly reached the spot, ANI reported.

According to the report, the source of the smoke was traced to a short circuit in the indoor unit of an air conditioner installed in a laboratory on the service floor. The situation was quickly brought under control, and no major evacuation was required.

All services at the Mother and Child Block are functioning normally, and patient care activities were not affected, the report added.

Fire Safety Concerns

This comes amid ongoing concerns over fire safety gaps at AIIMS. The institute has been carrying out fire safety inspections and putting in place preventive measures, such as routine checks of electrical systems and firefighting equipment.

Similar Incident Reported at Trauma Centre Last Month

The incident comes just over a month after a fire at the AIIMS Trauma Centre in the national capital, where an electric transformer caught fire.

The fire was doused after the fire department dispatched at least eight fire tenders to the spot. No one was injured in the incident.
