Eight people died in a fire following an explosion at an electric car charging point outside a three-storey house in Madhya Pradesh’s Indore. The incident occurred in the early hours (between 3.30 am and 4:30 am) on Wednesday.
The police report said that the explosion took place in a car, which was being charged outside the house. The fire soon spread across all the floors. The flames intensified and engulfed all the floors, as a gas cylinder also exploded at the same time inside the house.
The police were informed soon and, upon learning about the incident, they rushed to the spot. However, they struggled to get inside the house as the house had electronic locks on its doors. Nonetheless, the police broke the locks shortly, entered the house, and rescued three people who were trapped inside the house. They were sent to the nearby hospital, where one died later.
Meanwhile, the police also recovered seven dead bodies and sent them for post-mortem.
The house had electronic locks on its doors, which made it difficult for the police to enter quickly. Three people trapped inside were rescued by authorities, the commissioner added.
The incident has caused deep sorrow. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences and announced that an ex gratia of Rs 2 lakh will be provided to the next of kin of each deceased, and Rs 50,000 will be provided to all the injured.
“Deeply pained by the loss of lives in a fire mishap in Indore, Madhya Pradesh. Condolences to those who have lost their loved ones. I pray for the speedy recovery of the injured. An ex gratia of Rs. 2 lakh from PMNRF would be given to the next of kin of each deceased. The injured would be given Rs. 50,000,” Modi wrote on X.
