Eid al-Adha will be celebrated on June 7, said Eidgah Imam Maulana Khalid Rasheed Farangi Mahali on Friday. A 12-point advisory has also been issued in view of the festival to ensure a peaceful and responsible celebration.
The advisory prohibits people from sacrificing animals restricted by law and strictly maintaining hygiene during the process. It also emphasises that animal blood should not be disposed of in public places and discourages sharing photos or videos of the sacrifice on social media.
Eid al-Adha: Heavy Security Deployed In Lucknow
DCP Central Lucknow Ashish Srivastava said that preparations have been made in view of Bakrid celebrations, set to be celebrated on June 7.
“The police have made proper arrangements in view of Bakrid celebrations. Adequate police have been deployed…We are keeping an eye on social media also… Animals prohibited under the law should not be sacrificed,” said the official.
Why Is Eid al-Adha Celebrated?
Eid al-Adha, also known by the name Bakrid, is celebrated by Muslims around the world to commemorate the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) to sacrifice his son Ismail as an act of obedience to God.
According to Islamic tradition, God tested Ibrahim’s faith by asking him to sacrifice his beloved son.
As Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) was about to obey God’s command and sacrifice his son to prove his faith, God stopped him at the very last moment and asked him to sacrifice a ram (male ship) instead. Thus, it became a a symbol of faith, obedience, and mercy.
