Worked 18 hours every day with one day off. Then I got leave on Monday instead of Sunday because I had to be at the client site on Sunday. She told that at that time I was sad 90% of the time. I used to go to the office bathroom and cry. Ate chocolate cake from room service at 2 am in the night and was admitted to the hospital twice. The special thing is that even though I was at work for 100 hours, I was not productive. The same story is true for many of my classmates who graduated with me, who were working in other jobs including banking and consultancy.
In fact, Larsen & Toubro Chairman SN Subramanian, during an online conversation with his employees, advised them to work 90 hours a week. He said that if possible, the company will make you work on Sunday also. After this Radhika Gupta shared her experiences.
Not everyone wants to be a CEO and founder
Radhika Gupta said that hard work is an option, ambition is a choice and it has many consequences. Not everyone aspires to become a CEO or founder. I know many people who have chosen less demanding careers in their fields because time off from work makes sense to them.

Many developed countries work from 8 to 4, but ensure that they are productive during that time. He said to come on time and give your best in work. Hold only essential meetings and use technology to be effective.
The company manages funds worth more than ₹1 lakh crore
According to the company’s website, the asset under management (AUM) of Edelweiss Mutual Fund has crossed ₹1 lakh crore in November 2023. The company’s AUM has increased 11 times in the last 5 years. The company currently has a portfolio of 84 mutual funds, which include equity, debt, hybrid, and money market schemes.
Subramanian wants to get work done on Sunday also
When SN Subramanian was asked in L&T’s internal meeting why this billion dollar company calls its employees even on Saturdays. In response he said, ‘I am sorry that I am not able to make you work on Sunday. If I can get you to work even on Sunday, I will be more than happy, because I work on Sunday.
After this statement of Subramanian, the ongoing debate on work-life balance got a boost. It started after Infosys co-founder Narayana Murthy suggested working 70 hours a week.

In support of this, Subramanian also shared a conversation with a Chinese person. He said, ‘The person claimed that China can overtake America because Chinese employees work 90 hours a week, whereas in America, they work 50 hours.’
