The Delhi DoE has expanded Mission Mathematics to Classes 6 and 7, with SME classes starting July 7 to provide targeted support for students needing help in math.

The Delhi Directorate of Education (DoE) will now extend its Mission Mathematics and Special Mathematics Enrichment (SME) coaching to students of Classes 6 and 7 starting this academic session, aiming to strengthen foundational math skills at an early stage.
Previously implemented for students of Classes 8 to 10 in government schools, the initiative has shown promising outcomes in Common Annual School Examinations and the Class 10 CBSE board exams. Encouraged by these results, the DoE has decided to broaden the programme’s reach, as per a circular issued on Monday.
Under the expanded initiative, students from Classes 6 to 10 will be selected for SME classes based on their previous academic performance in mathematics. Priority will be given to those who passed with grace marks, cleared compartment exams, or scored below 40% in the subject. Teachers will also be allowed to nominate students based on classroom assessments.
To reinforce learning, the department will provide weekly worksheets, activity sheets, and daily practice questions aligned with core concepts. These materials will be digitally shared with schools three times a week in an activity-based, engaging format.
Special enrichment classes will commence on July 7 and may be scheduled before or after regular school hours. Each group will comprise 20 to 25 students and may be taught by trained resource persons. If necessary, schools can hire such personnel using School Management Committee funds.
Heads of schools have been directed to maintain comprehensive records of student participation and academic progress. For Class 10 students specifically, a detailed item-wise analysis of their mid-term exam performance will be undertaken to identify and bridge learning gaps.
To oversee and implement the initiative effectively, a Zonal Mission Mathematics Committee will be formed in each zone, chaired by the Deputy Director of Education. These committees will include mathematics-trained principals and trained graduate teachers from government schools.

Additionally, SCERT will organise training workshops for mathematics teachers focused on experiential and activity-based learning. To further promote innovation in teaching, mathematics-related Teaching and Learning Material (TLM) competitions will be held at the school, zonal, district, and state levels.
The DoE is also planning to introduce a centralised digital module to track student attendance and academic progress under Mission Mathematics.
