On Wednesday, Honor Poonawala wrote on the social media platform x, ‘RCB is a great team on the right valuation’. Earlier, IPL founder Lalit Modi had said that it seems that the owners of RCB have taken the final decision to sell it.

However, it is not yet clear whether the RCB owner Diazio will sell the entire steak or some hesitation. Diazio has refused to say anything in this case. If RCB is sold for 17 thousand crores, then it will be the biggest deal in IPL history.

Lalit Modi said- RCB will decide record valuation

Lalit Modi wrote on the social media platform X that the rumors of RCB’s selling were earlier, but the owners always denied. However, now it seems that they have taken the final decision to sell it. Modi said that RCB’s strong fan following, excellent management and the recently won IPL title makes it an attractive property for investors.

They believe that a large global fund or sovereign fund will be eager to buy it. Lalit Modi also said that this sales will decide a new record valuation for the IPL franchise and a new ‘floor price’ will become a minimum price for all teams.

The biggest deal in the history of IPL will be

If Diazio decides to sell RCB, it will be the biggest deal in the history of IPL. When two new teams were added to the IPL in 2021, Lucknow Super Giants and Gujarat Titans were bought by RPSG Group for Rs 7,090 crore and Gujarat was bought by CVC Capital for Rs 5,625 crore. These are the largest franchise purchase deals ever.

The valuation of RCB worth about Rs 17,000 crore is more than the purchase of Lucknow Super Giants and Gujarat Titans worth about Rs 17,000 crore.

There was news of selling in June too

After winning the IPL on June 3, a report by Bloomberg quoted sources as saying that the United Spirit (USL) is considering selling RCB for $ 2 billion, or about 17 thousand crores.

However, McDowels Whiski -making company United Spirit had denied the news of selling IPL team Royal Challengers Bangalore. The company said- We want to tell that the news of selling RCB’s stake is completely based on estimates. The company is not doing any such discussion.

The USL was earlier Vijay Mallya’s company. It was bought by British Licker company Diazio when Mallya was bankrupt. Diazio became the owner of RCB.

British company bought RCB from Vijay Mallya

Earlier, the owner of this team was liquor businessman Vijay Mallya, but in 2016 when Mallya got into trouble, Diazio bought RCB along with his liquor company.

RCB was bought by Vijay Mallya in 2008 for $ 111.6 million. According to that time, this amount was about 476 crore rupees in the rupee. It was the second most expensive IPL team at that time. Mallya’s company was owned by RCB through USL.

In 2014, Diazio bought a large stake in the USL and after Mallya was out of 2016, the entire Malikat of RCB came to Diazio. RCB currently operates the USL subsidiary Royal Challengers Sports Private Limited (RCSPL).

Poonawala who bought half a stake of Dharma Production

Earlier in October 2024, Adar Poonawala has purchased half of Bollywood director Karan Johar’s company Dharma Productions. The deal between Karan Johar and Adar Poonawala was done for Rs 1000 crore. However, half the stake in the company is with Dharma Productions and Karan Johar remains executive chairman.
