Delhi Police had detained Ashutosh-Sourav from Jantar Mantar on October 13.

Delhi Police has handed over the investigation of the case registered against Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) leaders Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka to the Crime Branch. Both are accused of reaching Jantar Mantar via private premises, where the demonstration was banned.

Earlier, the judicial custody of Das and Ranka was extended by two days on Monday. The order copy of the Special Executive Magistrate (SEM) came out late on Monday night. Magistrate Ritu Raj said that the behavior of Das and Ranka showed that they did not respect the law. There is also a danger of disturbing peace and order.

He said it was hard to believe the two workers were confident of not doing this again. Repeatedly appealing for protests at restricted or unpermitted places reflects their behaviour.

CJP leaders Ranka and Das are lodged in Tihar jail since October 14. Both will be produced again on Wednesday. Both are accused of violating restrictions during the demonstration at Jantar Mantar. At the same time, CJP has alleged deliberate delay in the release.

CJP leaders Ranka and Das were brought to the Mandir Marg police station around 3 pm on Monday.

Questions raised on identity of sureties

The magistrate pointed out flaws in the investigation of the sureties presented by both the leaders. A difference was found between the photographs of a surety’s bond and identity card. He could not even show the second identity card. At the same time, the second surety could not give basic information about the person for whom he had come to take bail.
