Supreme Court Chief Justice Surya Kant on Wednesday strongly reprimanded the father of a petitioner. According to the CJI, the person had called his brother regarding the order given by him. CJI said during the hearing in the court – The petitioner’s father called my brother and asked how the CJI gave such an order. Will he give me instructions now? Don’t try to bully me. The Chief Justice further said- No one dares to do this and you think that I will transfer the case because of this? I have been dealing with people like this for the last 23 years. The CJI raised the question as to why contempt proceedings should not be initiated against the petitioner’s father. On this the lawyer said that he was not aware of this and apologized. The matter related to admission in medical college after conversion, this entire matter is related to the petition of two general category students. Two people from Haryana had sought admission under the Buddhist minority quota in the postgraduate medical course at Subharti Medical College in Uttar Pradesh. This college has been declared a Buddhist minority educational institution. The petitioners claimed that they had converted to Buddhism and also produced a certificate for the same issued by the Sub-Divisional Officer. CJI had said – This seems to be an attempt to get admission in PG. However, in January, the court had raised serious questions on this conversion and had said that this step only seems to be an attempt to get admission in PG medical course from the minority quota. The CJI had also mentioned that the petitioner belonged to the Punia caste. The bench headed by CJI had ordered an investigation into the minority certificates of the petitioners. During the hearing today, CJI told the petitioner’s lawyer – You first check the facts and if the client is wrong then withdraw the case. Chief Justice said- Even if he hides outside the country, I know how to deal with such people. After this, the court listed the case for further hearing and said that efforts were being made to influence Haryana officials also. ————————- Also read these news related to the Supreme Court… SC said – Compensation cannot be taken away citing economic burden, National Highway Authority’s petition rejected in the land acquisition case.
