China Marriage Registration: चीन में युवा नहीं कर रहे हैं शादी, ये है असली वजह… सरकार परेशान!

There is a continuous decline in the number of couples getting married in China. The number of young people getting married in China in 2024 is the lowest in the last 12 years. Due to this, the birth rate in China is decreasing, which may lead to a decrease in the number of working population in the coming years.

This can create a new challenge for China, which is already troubled by its aging population, to keep its economy strong. According to China’s official figures, the number of Chinese couples getting married in the first half of this year has fallen to the lowest level since 2013. A major reason for this is the sluggish economy and rising cost of living there. In such a situation, most of the youth are postponing their marriage plans because they do not consider themselves capable of taking on more responsibilities.

5 lakh fewer marriages from the first half of 2023
Now if marriages are less then children will also be born less which will reduce the birth rate in the country. In such a situation, these youth avoiding marriage and then the falling birth rate have increased the concerns of the Chinese government and policy makers.

Actually, the government there is running many programs to boost the population. But the trend of marriage among the youth is decreasing. According to the marriage registration data in China, a total of 34 lakh couples have got married in the first half of this year, whereas in the first six months of 2023, about 39 lakh marriages took place, that is, about 5 lakh fewer marriages have taken place between January-June this year.

China’s efforts to increase birth rate fail!
This crisis is thwarting the Chinese government’s intention to increase the birth rate. In China, marriage is mandatory to have children, in which parents are required to register their child and provide a marriage certificate to get government benefits. But slow growth in China, the world’s second largest economy, is reducing jobs and the youth is worried about their future. In such a situation, many Chinese youth are choosing to stay single or marry late. The number of marriages in China has been declining since 2014. After the relaxation of the Kovid epidemic restrictions, there was some increase in it in 2023, which has now started decreasing again.

Lowest number of marriages since 1980!
Experts in China are estimating that this year the marriage rate may be the lowest since 1980. The youth population is decreasing due to the fall in marriage registration. Along with this, the higher number of men than women in the marriageable population and the high cost of marriage are also reducing the rate of marriages. In such a situation, China is being advised to take steps on a large scale to stop the decline in the birth rate.
