The Central Railway (CR) on Thursday announced that platform ticket sales will be restricted at 13 major stations for three days, from December 5 to 7, to manage crowding ahead of Mahaparinirvan Diwas.
Every year, thousands of devotees from Maharashtra and other parts of India visit Chaityabhoomi in Dadar, where Dr BR Ambedkar’s last rites were performed, to pay tribute to the chief architect of the Indian Constitution on his death anniversary on December 6.
In a statement, CR clarified that exemptions will be made for persons accompanying senior citizens, aged individuals, ailing passengers, children, illiterate persons, and women who cannot manage on their own. These individuals will still be allowed to purchase platform tickets.
In Mumbai, the restrictions will be enforced at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) and Dadar stations. Outside the city, the restriction will apply at Bhusaval, Nashik Road, Manmad, Jalgaon, Akola, Shegaon, Pachora, Badnera, Malkapur, Chalisgaon, and Nagpur stations.
The move aims to ensure smooth crowd management and maintain safety during the peak period of the annual commemorative event. Authorities have urged passengers and visitors to plan their travel accordingly and cooperate with railway staff at these stations.
